"Spotlight on Military Personnel
and Their Supporters"
Dear Christine and Letters From Home, Since joining the Marine Corps 26 years ago I have been a few places and seen a couple of things. But I will tell you that there is nothing that compares to the Patriotism that is displayed in our little corner of Western Pennsylvania, and for that I thank you for what you continue to do in supporting all of us deployed. I didn't realize, growing up just outside of Falls Creek and attending school at Brockway that not everyone in our nation has the same pride for our Country as the folks back home. I am truly awe struck to see all the great things that you and your organization does for us. I am completing my 2nd tour in Iraq and should be home (Jacksonville, NC) before Labor Day.
It is extremely tough on our families, we (my Marines) have been deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan 14 of the last 18 months. So I would ask that along with all of us deployed you also continue to remember our families who remain behind, and do all the "Real" hard work. To me the families back home are the true heroes of this fight on The Global War on Terrorism. Again, thank you, your organization, and all for all the support. Here is a photo taken at Al Taqaddum, Al Anbar Province, Iraq on July 4th 2009. One of my Marines flying the American Flag just prior to departing on a Combat Mission. I think the weather at the Brockway Old Fashioned 4th was a little better. Semper Fidelis, Sgt Maj Scott Smith P.S. I look forward to that 1st cold Straub when I get up home for Deer Season.
